| Occupying 34 acres on the island, which is connected to downtown Nassau by bridge, the Atlantis Resort originally was a casino destination in the 1960s. Adopting the mythical theme of the Lost Continent of Atlantis, today the Atlantis Resort is one of the most unstinting properties in the Caribbean and is a popular family vacation destination. The Royal Towers are the most voluptuary and upscale accommodations at Atlantis, featuring arresting architecture, one-of-a-kind murals, sculpture and fountains. The Great Hall of Waters in the lobby highlights a soaring 70-foot dome ceiling made of gilded shells and showcases the Ruins Lagoon, filled with ancient Atlantis artifacts and home to over 20,000 open-water fish. The Royal Towers offer 1,201 air-conditioned guestrooms in two salmon-colored wings topped by weathered bronze-colored spires. Rooms in the Royal Towers rooms are the largest at the resort and include tropic décor, sand-colored walls, crown molding and carved, light-colored furniture. Many rooms provide views of the harbor, ocean or the resort's waterscape. Non-smoking rooms are available. This hotel is closest to the spa, sports center, Mayan Temple water slides, the Dig, Casino, two primary pools, Cove Beach and marine exhibits. The Atlantis resort boasts 21 restaurants, bars, and lounges. Restaurants located in the Royal Towers include the Café at the Great Hall of Waters, a formal restaurant with a backdrop displaying marine life in Ruins Lagoon; Fathoms, as well by the Ruins Lagoon and featuring seafood; the Marketplace, with theme-dining alcoves decorated with wine and flowers from around the world; and Plato's, an indoor/outdoor lounge serving drinks and food. Other Atlantis Resort amenities include two more hotels, 50,000-square- foot casino, shopping malls and a private golf course. |
